Twigs snapped underfoot as Aurelio ran through the woods. Whatever that.. Thing was, it wasn't going to get him, not if he could help it! Everything around him twisted and turned weirdly, rocks sharper and trees taller than he remembered them being. The world was turning inside out, and he was just along for the ride. Laughter lilted out from somewhere behind him. How could he be running away, but hear everything coming closer? Panic rose in his throat. It tightened, and he pushed onwards. Little white globules of wavering light peeked out at him between trees and shrubs, from behind flowering plants, ferns, and stumps. They were absolutely everywhere. Surely there hadn't been so many when he had come into the woods? That felt like ages ago.. His friends had dated him into going, and of course he had obliged. No one could call him a coward, but now they might call him a fool.. Aurelio stopped, dust kicking up around him. He looked around, having come to a strange crossroads. The air

Something Odd in the Woods (Prompt #2)
"More lights in the woods, huh?" Balor shifted in his seat. Shoulders setting squarely, he lifted his arms over his head and stretched. Really, this was not his area of expertise. He didn't like the outdoors at the best times (he had always considered himself more of a city boy than anything else), and stories about these strange lights seemed to be making everyone anxious. The reports of other cccats going missing, trying to find the mysterious glow, settled deep in the pit of his stomach and gave him pause. Why was he even thinking about this? He looked across the room. The shop was filled with others reading the same stories in the paper from this morning. Another bump in the numbers, another uptick in sightings. People were really starting to get nervous.. A big blue hand pushed the comically tiny cup of espresso away from him across the table. The little phone next to a stack of papers in front of him began to ring, and he saw the number as his best friend's. With a quick

Enjoy the Outdoors (Prompt #1)
Hesperos had never been camping before, but had always heard good things. The only thing that really deterred him from trying it sooner was, well.. Everything, to be honest. But when one of his friends had told him about this "glamping" thing (said with enthusiastic jazz hands and maybe a hint of razzle dazzle), he thought it might finally be time to give it a try. He had picked the perfect day. A Friday, for an entire weekend of relaxation in the outdoors. It was supposed to be sunny, and the air was just rounding the corner into chilly territory, which meant it would be the perfect excuse for lots of cuddling down into soft blankets and pillows. With everything suitably packed up, the flowery little cccat made his way towards the woods. Halfway through, however, he noticed a change in the winds. The sky began to darken, and clouds were rolling in to cover what was left of the sun. It had already been chilly when he left, but now it was downright blustery. Small droplets began to

Skire gift prompt 6/2023!
Stede was bored. It was a beautiful Friday, the sun dipping just below the horizon line and obscured by clouds while the wind blew gently and bumblebees began heading back to the hive. In the distance, a few birds called out and found each other. Everything was beginning to either settle down for a comfortable evening or prepare for a fun midsummer night. But despite all the activity, time moved like molasses for the cream-and-brown cccat sitting by the window of a small shop. The sign stood still over the door; he had turned it over an hour ago. Drumming his claws on the countertop, he held the other up to his chin. Boredom and impatience courses through him. Where was he? Fishbone was usually never late to their weekly catch-up date. If he didn't show up soon, they might not be able to find a good spot at the cafe! Stede looked over to the phone, half hoping that maybe if he did it would ring and it would be his best friend, calling to say he was on his way and he was sorry. Eye

Skire fishing event 2023!
Fishbone was EXCITED. Normally he wouldn't have cared so much about doing anything that required physical labour (he had several partners that could see to that kind of thing if necessary), but fishing was one of his special talents; you don't end up with a name like "Fishbone" for looking pretty. ..Well, maybe in HIS case you could, but he liked to think it was mostly for his angling prowess. Somewhere off the other side of the lake, he was sure his partners were busy tormenting each other. They would probably be looking for him, which was all well and good, but he preferred to be alone when fishing. He needed the quiet, using it to hone his concentration and— -SPLASH- A loud, obnoxious cacophony of screaming giggles and yelling erupted from somewhere nearby. Fishbone lifted his head and grimaced at a trio of other cccats that were busy tromping through the crystalline blue-green waters, waving fishing rods and nets around them like weapons. He grumbled and began picking up his
Closing the door behind them, Hesperos was finally home for the day. They set their bag down on the small oaken table beside the entryway and began to hang up the hoodie they had been wearing on the walk home from work. The small house was cozy, dim and comforting. There was a smell of something sweet and familiar in the air, maybe vanilla or some kind of baked good? It was often hard to tell, as Hesperos was in the habit of making more sweets than they could reasonably eat on a given day. Making their way down a short hallway, they turned directly into a large open kitchen and crossed over towards the sink. It was a large, deep steel basin, with plenty of room for dishes and a small side section that allowed water to drain down into it from the left side. A few small plates and glasses remained from lunch, when Vermilion had dropped by to share a bite. Hesperos smiled and began to wash the dishes, filling up the sink with warm water and adding soap. Pink bubbles began
A calm breeze blew over the small island. Creatures big and small alike moved through grass and dirt, chattering and laughing, shrieking and cheering, having a wonderful time. The large arena was packed to the gills with spectators watching the current event, a group of painted cccats and a few crooks running away from a particularly large Sammie. It bellowed loudly and shook the seats, the sound reverberating through the air as the rodeo clowns began to scatter. “Boreas.” The glacial cccat turned his head quickly, looking at his mate. Their mouth was curved in a very bored-looking fashion over their fuchsia eye. Primrose was staring at him rather expectantly. “Huh? What? What is it?” Primrose sighed. “I said, I’m not really enjoying this. Don’t you think we could do something else? It’s rather hot, and I’m prone to burning, you know that..” “Oh, uh. Yeah, yes. Right. Well, okay. Come on.” Boreas stood, looming tall over the fluffy cccat beside him and casting a long shadow.

Skire Colourful Skies Event
“Summer time, and the livin’s easy.” The air was warm, not sticky, and a breeze blew through the tall grass like a dance. Above the festival grounds the sky was clear and open, inviting multitudes of Skire’s creatures to come out and join the activities. Cccats and crooks jumped, sang, chased, and played as the day moved lazily forward, gracing towards dusk. Everything was at peace. ..For the time being. A small cluster of cccats and a single small nautipod sat in the grass quietly. Laying on his back a larger, dark blue-black cccat stared up into the aether with his ever-present thousand yard stare, mouth agape. “I think we could make it work.” The nautipod turned to stare at the cccat next to him, grinning and exposing charcoal-colored teeth. “Think about it, guys! How funny would that be?” “Sweets?” Both the nautipod and the first cccat looked to a purplish friend who also wore a grin plastered across his lips. “Well,” he started, feigning an unaffected shrug, “if you think we
